3) Costliest 2021 Texas football recruiting misses: Jalen Milroe

While it is understandable why the Longhorns lost the commitment of the talented four-star Katy Tompkins dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe earlier in this cycle, it could still hurt them down the road. Milroe wound up flipping his commitment from Texas to join up with head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide back on Aug. 17.

This 6-foot-2 and 195 pound signal caller hailing out of Katy, TX, was one of the key parts of the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class for most of this cycle. But he wound up opening up his recruitment once the 2022 Texas class landed a commitment from the top ranked 2022 high school prospect in the nation, five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Texas also has the likes of freshmen quarterbacks Hudson Card and Ja’Quinden Jackson already on campus, and redshirt sophomore Casey Thompson waiting for his first chance to win the starting role too. It is likely to be an incredibly hotly contested quarterback battle to see who can be the starter once Sam Ehlinger’s time on the Forty Acres is over.

Milroe will no longer be part of that competition. Texas is now missing out on the nation’s No. 83 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 13 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He wound up picking Alabama over offers from Texas and more than 20 other schools.
