2) Herman’s Texas football/Houston decommits that succeeded elsewhere: Quentin Johnston

Now we move onto the former commits under Herman as head coach for the Longhorns that have a more recent impact on his current program. Not only is the TCU true freshman wide receiver and former in-state four-star recruit Quentin Johnston a potential Big 12 foe for a long time to come, he was a huge part of the Longhorns 2020 recruiting class at one point.

Johnston was the highest rated wide receiver commit (ahead of fellow four-star wideout Troy Omeire) in the Longhorns 2020 class before he opened his recruitment back up just ahead of the Early Signing Period last year. He wound up flipping his commitment to head coach Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs after Herman parted ways with both of his wide receivers coaches following the end of the 2019 regular season.

Coming out of Temple High School in Temple, TX, the lengthy 6-foot-4 and 195 pound Johnston ranked as the nation’s No. 71 2020 high school prospect, No. 14 wide receiver, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

And through just two games played this season with the Horned Frogs, Johnston is helping to make an immediate impact. He’s registered five catches for 120 receiving yards and one touchdown so far this season. Johnston is building up a decent receiving grade, and has no drops on the season so far either.

There’s still a long way for Johnston to go in his college career, but he’s already adding depth for the TCU receiving corps. That’s something that the Longhorns could really use right now.
