Texas Basketball: 3 best former Longhorns in the NBA in 2019-20
1) Best Texas basketball players in the NBA in 2019-20: LaMarcus Aldridge
By far the best former Longhorn in the NBA during the 2019-20 season was the veteran San Antonio Spurs power forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge. As the lone All-Star selection among Texas Exes in the NBA during the 2019-20 campaign, Aldridge really had a nice bounce back season at age of 34 playing in the Lone Star State.
What was so impressive about Aldridge’s play for the Spurs in the season that was involved the extending of his range and continued improvement to fit the mould of a modern big man in the NBA on both ends of the floor. He shot nearly 40 percent from downtown on a career-best three attempts from beyond the arc per game during the 2019-20 campaign.
Moreover, Aldridge played in 53 games during the shortened 2019-20 regular season with the Spurs (all of which he started in). And he averaged 18.9 points per game, 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.6 blocks. Aldridge shot 49.3 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line.
That all amounted to a 1.4 box plus/minus rating, 1.5 value over replacement player rating, .122 win shares per 48 minutes, more than four total win shares, 57.1 true shooting percentage, and a 19.7 player efficiency rating. After his nod to All-Star Weekend last season, Aldridge now holds seven career All-Star selections, and five All-NBA Team selections.
