Texas Football: 4 overreactions from the dismantling of Kansas State
1) Overreactions from Texas football’s win over K-State
What about Tom Herman?
While the win definitely didn’t do anything to hurt Herman’s case to stick around as Texas head coach at least heading into the offseason, it’s hard to know exactly how much it actually helped him. It’s not just results on the field in the immediate future that will determine the outcome of this Herman hot seat situation, but how consistent this program is and what results he can produce on the recruiting trail.
The 2022 recruiting class falling apart after the decommitments of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers and four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson put a very bleak outlook on the future of this program. Texas lost out on a potential once in a generation quarterback talent with Ewers ultimately flipping his commitment to join the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Texas can win out, and there’s still going to be a large faction of the Longhorns fan base that isn’t happy about him being around on the Forty Acres. A lot of the outcome of his hot seat situation will depend on who Texas athletic director Chris del Conte can target, namely former Ohio State and Florida head coach Urban Meyer.
While the Herman hot seat situation is not going to be a conversation that goes away anytime soon, it is nice to have something positive to talk about in the meantime. No Texas fans should complain if this team at least heads into the offseason on a high note, including a potential upgrade at head coach in the near future.
