1) Efficient Texas basketball players

And we’ve arrived at the least surprising player on this list, of the ultra-efficient Longhorns performances we’ve seen at the outset of the 2020-21 regular season. The former highly touted four-star recruit and the 6-foot-2 and 185 pound versatile standout senior guard Matt Coleman is having a tremendous start to this season.

The play of the Norfolk, VA, native and esteemed Oak Hill Academy product at the outset of this campaign is well documented. He hit the clutch game winning basket for Texas to give them the 69-67 win at the last second over the Tar Heels in the Championship Round of the Maui Invitational, back on Dec. 2.

But Coleman did more than just that this season so far for the Longhorns. He’s the most versatile star, and he’s started in all five games he’s played in thus far. Coleman is also playing an astounding 36.4 minutes per game so far this season. He’s averaged 16.4 points per game, 2.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks. Coleman shot 50.8 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line.

That all amounted to a sparkling 121 offensive rating/96 defensive rating, 11.0 box plus/minus rating, .206 win shares per 40 minutes, 0.9 total win shares, 61.9 true shooting percentage, and 20.6 player efficiency rating. Outside of total win shares (which could come over time), essentially all of those shooting percentages and advanced metrics are career highs for Coleman so far.
