Matt Coleman doesn’t need to do everything for Texas to win

Another good sign of things to come this season for the Longhorns on the hardwood is how the team as a whole played in a down game offensively for senior versatile guard Matt Coleman. So far this season, Coleman was definitely the MVP for the Longhorns. And this was his most absent game to date.

In 34 minutes played in this game, Coleman registered just five points, one rebound, six assists, two steals, no blocks, and two turnovers. And he shot 2-of-6 from the field, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and didn’t have any attempts from the charity stripe.

Although Coleman registered a season-low five points in this game, his was still efficient in a few other areas. An assist-to-turnover ratio of three-to-one is never a bad thing. And his perimeter defense was still solid, registering two steals and rarely getting blown by in transition or off-the-dribble.

Considering Ramey didn’t have his best or most explosive game offensively either, and Texas still came away with the win, the depth is really proving to be valuable for Smart this season. Texas got another good game from sophomore power forward Kai Jones off the bench.
