Texas Football: 3 transfer portal targets Horns are in close contact with
2) Transfers Texas football is in contact with
Although he might be slipping out of the Longhorns grasp of late, the former Kansas State Wildcats senior safety Jonathan Alexander is still considered a transfer portal target for the staff. Texas would definitely be able to get a capable and proven replacement for the likes of Sterns and/or Brown if they were able to land Alexander out of the transfer portal next offseason.
But the 247Sports Transfer Portal Crystal Ball Predictions do have their experts picking Alexander to commit to head coach Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the near future over the rest of the field. Alexander could still be considering schools like the Longhorns that were pursuing him out of the portal for at least a month now. But there is writing on the wall that he is narrowing down his decision.
This could likely be why Texas is now in contact so fast with Lars-Woodbey. Texas doesn’t really need to go after two safeties in the transfer portal given that there is still a good amount of young talent they boast at the position. Texas still has the likes of sophomore former five-star recruit Tyler Owens, freshman Jerrin Thompson, and junior B.J. Foster that could compete for starting roles next year.
Alexander would be a familiar face to add from a Big 12 foe in Kansas State. He is still worth pursuing for the Texas coaching staff, if his mind isn’t already set on Mississippi State. If Alexander does already have his mind made up, then we’re likely to figure that out in the near future and the Longhorns can officially turn their attention to another safety transfer if they feel necessary.
