Texas football 2021 position-by-position class grades

The cornerback position is a really difficult one to grade for the Longhorns since their four-star DB commit Ibraheem has yet to officially sign his letter of intent. But a good starting point at the cornerback position in the 2021 class for Texas and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai is with the four-star John Muir product and California native Jamier Johnson.
This highly touted 6-foot and 170 pound cornerback should be a really nice fit with Ash’s scheme moving forward. He committed to Texas over offers from more than a dozen other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC.
Moreover, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 263 2021 high school prospect, No. 20 cornerback, and No. 22 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).
The highest rated defensive back signee as a whole in the Longhorns 2021 class is the highly touted four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey. The 6-foot-1 and 180 pound in-state defensive back product committed to Texas at the same time that Ibraheem did back during the offseason.
Coffey picked Texas over offers from more than 30 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included Auburn, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, and the Washington Huskies.
Coffey ranks as the nation’s No. 156 2021 high school prospect, No. 7 safety, and No. 26 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
