On the afternoon of Feb. 13, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class got a huge boost to its stock after landing the commitment of the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy. Texas got their fourth and fifth commitments in their 2022 class over the weekend, with the other pledge coming from the underrated three-star Arlington-Martin inside linebacker Trevell Johnson.
And the commitments from both Murphy and Johnson came within hours of each other on the afternoon/evening of Feb. 13. Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2022 class is really starting to build a nice foundation with four blue chip commits in the mix now, including one of the top quarterback prospects in the entire country for this cycle.
The commitment of Murphy to the Longhorns 2022 class was announced to the public on his Twitter timeline on Feb. 13. That came sooner than anticipated, especially since Murphy has a planned visit to the Forty Acres for next week.

Nonetheless, there’s no way that any Longhorns fan should be disappointed with how things shaped up for this class. Just four months ago, Texas had recently lost the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Now that Texas has the commitment of Murphy officially in the mix for the 2022 class, the group ranks at No. 7 in the national class rankings and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). Murphy is the highest rated of five commits in the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look into who could be the next commit for the Longhorns 2022 class after landing Murphy this weekend.
3) Predicting next 2022 Texas football commit after Murphy
A potential next commit up for the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class that is trending to land on the Forty Acres of late is the unheralded 6-foot-4 and 300 pound Westlake offensive tackle Connor Robertson. This local Austin, TX, offensive line prospect is becoming a prioritized target for recently hired offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and Sark of late.
The Rivals FutureCast now has all of their publishers and analysts picking the commitment of Robertson to go to the Longhorns over the rest of the competition. And all three of the 247Sports expert Crystal Ball Predictions are favoring Texas to get Robertson in their 2022 class.
Most of the picks of Robertson to commit to Texas have come this month too.
The offer sheet of Robertson has expanded greatly of late. He’s now up to more than 21 schools on his ever-growing offer sheet. Since the beginning of this month, he’s received scholarship offers from the likes of the USC Trojans, TCU Horned Frogs, Northwestern Wildcats, Virginia Cavaliers, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the Longhorns.
A few of the other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Duke Blue Devils, Houston Cougars, Kansas State Wildcats, and SMU Mustangs.
Moreover, Robertson ranks as the nation’s No. 746 2022 high school prospect, No. 26 offensive guard (classified with this position group in the recruiting rankings), and No. 92 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 29 offensive guard and No. 109 prospect out of Texas.
2) Predicting next 2022 Texas football commit after Murphy
What could be a solid foundational piece on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class is the highly coveted four-star 5-foot-11 and 185 pound West Brook safety Bryce Anderson. Texas is already starting to build a good foundation in the defensive backfield in the 2022 class with a commitment of the talented four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau already in store.
This potent and promising defensive back hailing out of Beaumont, TX, is getting a lot of attention from some of the top college programs around the country at the moment. Including his scholarship offer from Texas, Anderson now holds 40 schools on his lengthy offer sheet. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC.
Although competing schools in the pursuit of Anderson’s commitment like Texas A&M and LSU are at the forefront of Anderson’s recruitment, Texas looks to be firmly in the mix too. But there is one recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Anderson’s commitment to go to Texas over the rest of the field.
Just over half of the analysts and publishers from the Rivals FutureCast do have Anderson committing to Texas A&M over the likes of Texas, LSU, and the rest of the field.
Moreover, Anderson ranks as the nation’s No. 66 2022 high school prospect, No. 4 safety, and No. 12 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 84 high school prospect, No. 6 safety, and No. 15 prospect out of Texas.
1) Predicting next 2022 Texas football commit after Murphy
There’s a good amount of momentum that could continue to get built up on the defensive side of the ball in the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class that could really stem from the secondary. If the Longhorns aren’t the team that gets the commitment of the in-state product Anderson when it’s all said and done then the next name up on this list could be their primary target at the safety position.
The brother of the Longhorns former three-star athlete signee Jaden Hullaby and four-star Mansfield Timberview 6-foot and 185 pound safety Landon Hullaby is somewhat already firmly on Texas’ radar, though. This native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Hullaby is trending firmly in the Longhorns favor as it appears of late.
The latest edition of the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions has both experts picking Hullaby giving his commitment to Texas over the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has every single one of their analysts and publishers picking Hullaby to give his pledge to Texas.
As of the afternoon of Feb. 14, Texas is one of nearly 30 schools on the lengthy offer sheet for Hullaby. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn, Baylor Bears, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee, and USC.
Moreover, Hullaby ranks as the nation’s No. 306 2022 high school prospect, No. 18 safety, and No. 38 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 25 safety and No. 54 prospect out of Texas.
