3) Landing spots for former Texas football DL Marqez Bimage

Cal

It’s not really a common pipeline from the Forty Acres to for a player in the transfer portal like Bimage to land in the PAC-12. That was at least until this offseason arrived. Texas lost a number of players to the USC Trojans, such as junior running back Keaontay Ingram and freshman safety Xavion Alford. That doesn’t include the likes of the talented freshman quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson who took his talents to join the Utah Utes this offseason.

Could Bimage be the next player that lands with a PAC-12 school among former Longhorns that entered the transfer portal recently?

There’s also a past connection between Bimage and this program first up on the list out of the PAC-12. Bimage was offered by the Cal Golden Bears when he was coming out of Brenham High School in Brenham, TX, back during the 2017 recruiting cycle. Cal was the just the second school to sent Bimage a scholarship offer after he decommitted from the Houston Cougars in late 2015/early 2016.

Cal was one of just over a dozen schools to send Bimage a scholarship offer during his recruitment. And Cal could use some help along the defensive line since they don’t have much depth at that spot on the current roster. They allowed just under five yards per carry last season, and had trouble getting a consistent push in the trenches in both run and pass defense.

This could be a nice fit for Bimage if he wants to take his talents out to PAC-12 country. There is always a spark when a player got attention from a certain school and/or coaching staff coming out of high school. That could be the connection formed that he needs to find his next landing spot out of the portal.
