Texas Football: 3 best NFL Draft landing spots for Joseph Ossai
New Orleans Saints
A pretty sizable need exists for the New Orleans Saints to add some help in their front seven this offseason. And since they have their first round pick late in the draft on Day 1, they’ll have to really scout out who they want to bolster their depth chart on the defensive side of the ball. A team that finished up with 12 regular season wins last year will have a lot of change facing them this coming season.
There is a steady rock that exists for the Saints at the linebacker position in the team’s leading tackler from last year in Demario Davis. Last season, Davis registered 119 combined tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, and five pass breakups. But beyond Davis, there are a number of question marks that exist for the Saints at linebacker.
Landing in NOLA would be familiar territory for the former Longhorn Ossai. He could fill a need immediately either as a true outside linebacker or as an edge rusher. The Saints really do need help at both spots. Edge rusher and linebacker are two of the four or five biggest draft needs for the Saints this year.
Davis and veteran strong safety Malcolm Jenkins caused most of the pass rush that the Saints were able to muster last season. But they could use more out of their front seven, especially their edge rushers. If Ossai were to land with the Saints in this year’s draft, he would be playing alongside the likes of defensive ends Marcus Davenport and Cameron Jordan and linebacker Zack Baun.
