Charles Montgomery, ATH

I’ve been a fan of the idea of Sark and the Longhorns pursuing the underrated former Florida Gators commit and three-star Armwood 5-foot-10 and 185 pound ultra-elusive athlete Charles Montgomery this offseason. After the decommitment of Montgomery from the Gators back on Dec. 18, 2020. And he hasn’t found his next landing spot as of yet.

There still is a chance that Montgomery could land with head coach Dan Mullen and the Gators in the SEC East when it’s all said and done, but there’s no guarantee that will happen. Texas should be able to take advantage of a prior connection established when Sark was a part of the Alabama coaching staff and pursue Montgomery this offseason.

The primary recruiter on staff with legendary head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide was new Texas special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, so that can be leverage if Sark does want to pursue Montgomery in the near future.

Texas never sent a scholarship offer Montgomery’s way during his recruitment to date. But it might not be too late for the Longhorns to make it two dozen schools on Montgomery’s offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools that offered him thus far (outside of Alabama and Florida) include the Arkansas Razorbacks, Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Iowa State Cyclones, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Virginia Tech Hokies, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

Moreover, Montgomery ranks as the nation’s No. 443 2021 high school prospect, No. 28 athlete, and No. 69 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 31 athlete and No. 71 prospect out of Florida.
