Denton Ryan’s Billy Bowman Jr. tackles Cooper’s Brady Miller after Miller picked off a pass on the game’s opening drive. Cooper cashed the pick in for a TD, but Ryan won the Region I-5A Division I semifinal game 58-20 on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at the C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton.Cooper Ryan Fb 00 /

Definitely the most notable recent flip that the Sooners got out of a former Texas pledge came in the form of the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. One of the biggest commits that Herman had in his 2021 class was the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product Bowman Jr., and it really hurt to see him leave for Oklahoma.

Texas lost the commitment of Bowman back when it seemed like the sky was falling for Herman on the recruiting trail. In the same span of six weeks, Texas lost commitments from the likes of Bowman Jr. in their 2021 class, and the duo of elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers and four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson in their 2022 class.

Wilson is still looking to find his next landing spot, while Ewers and Bowman Jr. have obviously committed elsewhere.

It was back on Oct. 7, 2020, that Herman and the Longhorns lost the commitment of the 5-foot-10 and 175 pound wide receiver/defensive back Bowman Jr. And it took less than one month for Oklahoma to essentially flip the commitment of Bowman Jr. to their 2021 class, which specifically took place on Nov. 1, 2020.

What Texas lost in the uber-talented and promising Bowman Jr. was the nation’s No. 43 2021 high school prospect, No. 2 athlete, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 39 high school prospect, No. 2 athlete, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas.
