Texas Football: 5 big recruits the Longhorns landed over Jimbo Fisher
Keaontay Ingram, RB
A player that is mostly an afterthought at this point in Longhorns country is the former highly-coveted four-star Carthage recruit and junior running back Keaontay Ingram. Following the conclusion to his third year playing for Texas, Ingram wound up putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
And then a few months back, Ingram landed with head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans out in the PAC-12.
Ingram was a big part of the Texas ground game for the better part of two and a half seasons, though. He was also the lone running back signee in the Longhorns 2018 recruiting class. That made him a critical part of the pipeline of running back talent coming onto the Forty Acres at the time.
Ingram was a hotly contested recruit for both the Longhorns and Aggies. The battle to get his commitment largely came down just to the likes of Fisher and the Aggies and Herman and the Longhorns.
It was ultimately Texas that would win over his commitment, and sign him down back on National Signing Day 2018. Texas landed his commitment over offers from Texas A&M and nearly 30 other schools.
In his three years playing for Texas, Ingram registered more than 2,300 total yards from scrimmage, averaged more than five yards per carry, and tallied up 17 total touchdowns.
During the 2018 recruiting cycle, Ingram ranked as the nation’s No. 164 high school prospect, No. 6 running back, and No. 15 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 198 high school prospect, No. 7 running back, and No. 22 prospect out of Texas.
