Finding a staple five-star commit that Beard and the Longhorns can build this 2022 class around should be a main task at hand for this new coaching staff in the offseason. Or at least starting to build those connections that could eventually get the 2022 class in that position is important in the first couple of months for Beard in Austin.

A target to watch for the Longhorns 2022 class that could be a candidate to be the first five-star commit in the mix is the elite five-star Windward School 6-foot-9 and 220-pound power forward Kijani Wright. This Los Angeles, CA-area product Wright is one of the top overall prospects for the Longhorns to pursue during the 2022 recruiting cycle.

And Texas is the talk of the town at the moment in terms of the pursuit of Wright’s commitment. Beard and the Longhorns sent a scholarship offer Wright’s way earlier this month. And they have an official visit scheduled with Wright for June 9. He is currently one of four planned visitors for Texas one official visits start up next month.

Texas is now one of 16 schools on Wright’s ever-growing offer sheet. And he ranks as the nation’s No. 11 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 power forward, and No. 3 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 8 high school prospect, No. 2 power forward, and No. 4 prospect out of California.

In the 2020 class, the lone signee for the Longhorns was the five-star hometown power forward Greg Brown. Maybe Texas could get a similar deal out of their 2022 class by landing a five-star power forward in Wright.
