Texas Football: 3 big-time prospects Sark could land over the Sooners
Derrick Brown, DE/Edge Rusher
There is really good news that came about of late for the Longhorns in pursuit of the commitment of the four-star 6-foot-4 and 210-pound Texas High defensive end/edge rusher Derrick Brown. Some of the recent expert forecasts for Brown’s commitment have the Longhorns trending in favor of getting him in their 2022 class when it’s all said and done.
Texas has the team of new co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate after Brown on the recruiting trail. That is a lot of attention to put with Brown to have both defensive coordinators as his top recruiters at the same time.
Brown also had his official visit with the Longhorns this month set last weekend (specifically on June 4). Texas got the first visit with Brown, and it went well by all accounts. That is largely why there is so much momentum in favor of Texas getting his commitment at the moment.
But it is worth watching what happens on the rest of his visit schedule in the coming months. He is set to visit the Baylor Bears and head coach Dave Aranda on June 25, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders and head coach Matt Wells on June 18. The last scheduled visit that Brown has on the books right now is in the fall, with Oklahoma on Sep. 17.
Brown looks to be set to have an unofficial visit with Oklahoma within the week, which could change some of the ways things seem to be trending with his recruitment right now. That will be an important developing story to watch unfold in the next couple of weeks.
