Texas definitely looks to be deepest at the three and the four at this point of the offseason. They have some rather switchable guards/wings in seniors Courtney Ramey and Jase Febres and junior Andrew Jones. Texas also returns junior forward Brock Cunningham. That’s not to mention the new pickups such as four-star small forward Jaylon Tyson, and junior forwards Christian Bishop and Timmy Allen.

But if the Longhorns wanted to land another true standout wing that could play at the three in the type of system that Beard likes to run, it looks like the former UCF Knights emerging star and 6-foot-5 and 200-pound junior shooting guard/wing Brandon Mahan could be a good fit. Mahan got his first career All-American Athletic Conference Team selection last season.

Mahan started to really prove what he can do last season, showing an impressive level of improvement that should only continue heading into the 2021-22 campaign. This is also the second time that Mahan had his name show up in the transfer portal. He originally committed to the Texas A&M Aggies, but only played in one season for them.

As he’s reportedly getting interest from a host of other Big 12 schools at the moment, Texas could jump into the mix in terms of those coaches in contact with him.

Mahan spent the last two seasons with UCF, consistently improving his game. Last season, he averaged a career-best 12.3 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And Mahan shot 45.0 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 90.6 percent from the free-throw line.
