Since the Longhorns are definitely good among their forward rotation at this point, finding help would either likely need to come just to add numbers to the roster as a whole or to get help for the backcourt rotation. With Beard and the Longhorns looking like they want to run either the former Kentucky Wildcats freshman guard Devin Askew or senior guard Courtney Ramey starting at the point, that might take care of any immediate need at the one.

I was a personal fan of the idea of the Longhorns getting a point guard out of the transfer portal this offseason, but not many options exist for help at that spot by now. That’s why Texas could round out the backcourt rotation with just one more impactful transfer two-guard. Especially if Ramey is going to be playing at the one, Texas should have a good amount of rotational two-guard depth.

One of the more appealing names in the transfer portal at the moment among shooting guards is also one of the more recent entrants. Former UCF Knights and Texas A&M Aggies 6-foot-5 and 200-pound redshirt junior shooting guard Brandon Mahan looks like he would be a nice fit with the current personal on hand.

What also makes it a difficult feat to know what the next transfer portal addition could be for Texas (because it looks like there will be at least one more) is that there are no known connections with any player available at the moment. With how high-profile some of the transfer additions were for Texas so far this offseason, it would make sense for them to go after someone like Mahan.

Mahan is a known improving defender that also got his first career All-Conference honors last season. His game is trending up, and that could be the right time for Texas to pursue him.
