Johntay Cook, WR

There might not be a single prospect that Texas has more momentum built up with on the recruiting trail for their 2023 class at this point then the potent four-star DeSoto 6-foot and 170-pound wide receiver Johntay Cook. Texas had Cook on campus for an unofficial visit last weekend, and it seemed like it went almost as well as it could by most accounts.

Capitalizing on the momentum that the Longhorns have built up with Cook on the recruiting trail of late is something that might pan out by the end of the summer. Although there’s no decision date in sight with Cook, it’s hard to find a prospect that Sark and wide receivers coach Andre Coleman are doing well with of late.

Texas has some major competitors in pursuit of Cook’s commitment. Some other schools to watch in his recruitment includes the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggies, and Georgia Bulldogs, among others. He’s also had unofficial visits this month with the likes of the Baylor Bears, Texas, and Oklahoma.

No clear frontrunner exists for Cook yet that we know of, but Texas is clearly in a great position with him.

Texas is one of the more than 30 schools on Cook’s offer sheet that just keeps on growing of late. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.
