Texas Football: Predicting next 2022 commit after huge OL day
Derrick Brown, Edge Rusher
It’s hard to exactly pinpoint the status of the recruitment of the four-star Texas High 6-foot-3 and 210-pound edge rusher Derrick Brown sits at the moment. Brown announced on his Twitter timeline earlier in the week a top two of Texas and the Big 12 foe Baylor. Texas looked to have a sizable edge over Baylor a few weeks back after their official visit.
But a lot of the momentum for the Longhorns that they had after the June 4 official visit with Brown has seemingly fallen into the background after his visit with Baylor. Brown had his official visit with head coach Dave Aranda and the Bears in Waco back on June 25.
The top recruiters that Texas has pursuing Brown after new co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate. That is a big-time duo for Texas to send after a blue-chip prospect like Brown.
We will still have to wait a few more weeks before Brown will announce his decision. Texas is set to see Brown announce his commitment on July 20, a little more than two weeks from this holiday weekend.
It does seem like other previous top schools in the running for Brown are now falling out of the race. That includes the likes of the rival Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Tech Red Raiders, among others.
At this point, I would have to say that this seems like a dead heat between Texas and Baylor with the way that the Bears are surging for Brown of late. Texas can still win this one out in the end, and it would be a big boost to the front seven in the 2022 class.
