Texas Football: Predicting next 2022 commit after huge OL day
Evan Stewart, WR
The former Texas commit and the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart is starting to come back to the forefront with the resumption of the dead period. Texas originally landed a commitment from the in-state product Stewart back in February, only to see him re-open his recruitment less than one full month later.
Texas has still remained in the thick of the pursuit of Stewart since he decommitted from the 2022 class a few months back. That is good news for Sark and the Longhorns as they try to get back their lone five-star wide receiver commit in the mix.
Stewart was on campus for an official visit in Austin back on June 18. Texas was one of a few key official visits that Stewart took last month. His June 4 official visit with head coach Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators is one particular visit of note for the Longhorns.
Competing schools like the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Gators look to be making some progress still with Stewart. But Texas would likely still be considered the frontrunner with Stewart at this moment in time.
The two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions in for Stewart still have his commitment landing with Texas over Florida and the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers sticking with Texas to land Stewart.
In all likelihood, second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman, Sark, and the Longhorns will have a great shot to get Stewart back in the 2022 class by the arrival of the Early Signing Period. But if we’re looking at a summer decision from Stewart to announce his ultimate landing spot, then Texas could still hold the edge in this race.
