One of the newest transfer portal entrants that burst onto the national scene in the past week is the former Oral Roberts breakthrough junior 6-foot-8 and 225-pound power forward/center Kevin Obanor. The Houston, TX, native is definitely one of the most accomplished and momentous names in the transfer portal at this point of the offseason.

Since the portal has dried up in the past few weeks, as anticipated, Obanor will gain a lot of notoriety as he goes through the transfer process in the coming days and weeks. And if Texas still wants to add depth to their frontcourt rotation this offseason, then Obanor should be their guy.

The two-time All-Summit League honoree, 2018-19 Summit League Newcomer of the Year, and two-time All-Summit Tournament Team selection, Obanor ended last season on about as much of a high note as he possibly could. He helped push Oral Roberts to NCAA Tournament massive upsets of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators.

Eventually, Oral Roberts would fall short of the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Sweet 16, but they were definitely one of the Cinderella stories of March Madness this year.

Obanor himself had a combined 58 points, 22 rebounds, and five steals, through Oral Roberts’ first two games in the NCAA Tournament. And for his junior campaign as a whole, Obanor averaged a career-best 18.7 points per game, 9.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.7 blocks. And he shot an efficient 50.3 percent from the field, 46.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

That was good for a career-best .210 win shares per 40 minutes, and a sparkling 25.7 player efficiency rating last season for Obanor.
