In all likelihood, the player that will be the starting two-guard in the rotation next to Carr for Beard and the Longhorns next season will be rising senior guard Courtney Ramey. The 6-foot-3 and 185-pound former four-star recruit Ramey made his return for Beard and the Longhorns heading into next season official last week.

Ramey might be the most notable returning Longhorns player ahead of next season. It is key for Texas to get the likes of junior forward Brock Cunningham, redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, and senior sharpshooting guard Jase Febres back heading into next season.

That is especially true with the rest of the roster attrition going on this offseason, and the loss of key players like senior standout center Jericho Sims, senior guard Matt Coleman, sophomore power forward Kai Jones, etc. to the 2021 NBA Draft.

Moreover, Ramey is still likely going to be one of the higher-usage players in this starting unit for the Longhorns, even after the addition of Carr to the backcourt. His usage rate might drop a bit next season, but it shouldn’t dip all that much.

What the addition of Carr will do, above all else, for Ramey next season is take a lot of the pressure off of his shoulders to be the primary facilitator of the offense. Now, Ramey can focus on a lot of the things that makes his offensive game pretty special. He can find more open space to drive the lane, hit open catch-and-shoot looks, and run with more open floor in transition.

This season might not have the volume numbers that a lot of people anticipated out of Ramey, but it could be the most efficient of his career by far following the addition of Carr.
