Texas Basketball: 3 players that beneift most from addition of Marcus Carr
Timmy Allen, F
Despite getting Askew and Carr out of the transfer portal this offseason, the highlighting additions will still come to the forward/frontcourt rotation. Beard and the Longhorns are seriously stocked full of forward talent by way of the transfer portal from the past few months.
Some of the key forward additions out of the transfer portal for the Longhorns this offseason included the former Utah Utes junior Timmy Allen, Vanderbilt Commodores sophomore Dylan Disu, and Creighton Blue Jays junior Christian Bishop.
It’s really difficult to tell who will get the start at the three and the four at this point. Texas looks to have an established starter at the five with the recent transfer addition and former UMass Minutemen star sophomore center Tre Mitchell. But it looks like Texas could start any of the likes of Jones, Febres, or Jaylon Tyson on the wing, and Allen, Disu, or Bishop at the four.
With the addition of Carr now locked in for Beard and the Longhorns, though, Allen could benefit more than the rest of those guys vying for the starting role at the four. The two-time All-PAC-12 forward is a very consistent and effective two-way forward that could really wreak havoc off ball screens, open cuts through the lane, and getting open shots inside the two-point arc, with Carr facilitating the offense.
Texas is getting a dominant forward rotation in the mix this season. You really could pick any of the trio of key transfer portal additions that will play at the three or the four heading into next season among who will benefit most from the addition of Carr. But it’s hard to look beyond someone as experienced or proven as Allen in this regard.
