Eoghan Kerry, LB

The newest commit in the Longhorns 2022 class is the California native and three-star linebacker Kerry. Texas is starting to put together a solid, albeit underrated, group of linebackers together in the 2022 class. The two true linebacker commits in the Longhorns 2022 class are the three-star Arlington-Martin product Trevell Johnson and now Kerry.

The commitment of Kerry arrived for the Longhorns 2022 class on the morning of Aug. 4. That gets the Longhorns one step closer to rounding out this 2022 class ahead of the Early Signing Period, just a few months down the road.

Yet, it would be nice to see Texas add at least one true blue-chip commit at the linebacker position.

For the time being, we have to appreciate the fit that Texas could get out of the likes of Jones, Johnson, and the 6-foot-3 and 235-pound likely outside linebacker Kerry. Although Kerry isn’t a top-end athlete, he has tremendous closing speed, instincts, and can dissect a play in the blink of an eye from the linebacker spot.

Kerry ranks as the nation’s No. 587 2022 high school prospect, No. 61 linebacker, and No. 45 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 41 linebacker and No. 36 prospect out of California.

It could take some additional time for Kerry to put on the necessary size to bulk up to play either as an outside or weakside linebacker at Texas. But he’s got the pass-rushing, tackling, and instincts to succeed at the next level.
