The player that is definitely the purest shooter for the Longhorns is the former blue-chip recruit and rising senior sharpshooting guard/wing Jase Febres. The 6-foot-5 and 195-pound Febres was recruited out of Westfield High School in Texas knowing that he could be a sharpshooter for this backcourt/wing rotation.

Yet, the problem that Febres faced since first coming onto the Forty Acres ahead of the start of the 2017-18 season was the fact that he couldn’t find consistent across an entire campaign. And then, as soon as it felt like he was finding more consistency shooting from deep, Febres couldn’t really stay healthy in the past couple of seasons.

It did feel like Febres was finding his rhythm and contributing in a meaningful way off the bench down the stretch last season. Febres shot north of 39 percent from beyond the arc last season and was perfect on four attempts from the free-throw line. It was also his third straight season shooting north of 37 percent from beyond the arc.

Febres also shot roughly 85 percent from the free-throw line from the last two seasons combined. If Febres is able to stay healthy throughout the entirety of this coming season, he could find his most efficient campaign yet. Never before will Febres have been a part of an offense that gives him so much space on the floor to hit open shots and have more movement around him with Beard at the helm.
