A wideout that was surprisingly low on the depth chart for Week 1 against Louisiana was the former walk-on and junior slot receiver Kai Money. Starting out the season third on the depth chart at the slot receiver position behind the likes of true freshman Xavier Worthy and junior Al’Vonte Woodard, Money should have the chance to prove himself early on.

It might not be in Week 1 where Money gets his chance to shine. That seems like it could come more so in the final non-conference game of the regular season against the Rice Owls on Sep. 18.

But we have seen Card combine with Money in spots before this offseason. Money was one of the top targets for Card in the spring game and throughout both of the fall scrimmages.

The role that the slot receiver will play for the Longhorns in the new Sark scheme on offense this fall will be huge. And with the reliable hands that Money brings to the table, he could be an outlet for Card as the second-year signal-caller gets accustomed to this offense.

With some of the rhythm that Money showed throughout camp this offseason, it looks like Card is a better quarterback to find him in the passing game compared to Thompson. If there are any struggles that the likes of Woodard and/or Worthy has out of the gates this fall, watch out for Sark to turn to Money in due time.

Last season, Money was targeted on just 11 occasions, and he came down with 10 catches. That one miss was a drop that was on Money. Otherwise, it was almost automatic last season to find Money out of the slot when Sam Ehlinger looked his way.

It could be a similar story for Card if Money starts to get more reps as the season moves along this fall.
