Hudson Card, Bijan Robinson, and Jordan Whittington will spark this offense

Any questioning of the decision for Sark to start Card over Thompson in this game was quickly erased after the first few drives. Card showed the poise that Texas saw out of some of the better quarterbacks for this program over the course of the last two or three decades. We can’t get ahead of ourselves in regard to the expectations for Card this fall.

But you can’t help but be impressed about what the Longhorns got out of a first-time starting quarterback this weekend against a proven and experienced Louisiana defense at all levels. Card was able to carve up a Louisiana secondary that might be one of the best in the Group of Five, if not the entire country.

Card relied on the likes of Bijan and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington in this game. Of the 224 passing yards and two passing touchdowns that Card came up with here, 186 of the yards and both scores went to Bijan and Whittington. Card and Bijan also added two scores of their own on the ground.

Bijan individually came up with 103 rushing yards on 20 carries (5.2 yards per carry), 73 receiving yards on four catches (18.3 yards per catch), and one touchdown catch. He was amazing for Texas in this season opener.

Meanwhile, Whittington was the spark plug so many Longhorns fans knew he could be. He registered a career-best 113 receiving yards on seven catches (16.1 yards per catch), and one touchdown. It really looks like Texas has a three-headed monster to shoulder the load for this offense with Bijan leading the way, followed up by Card and Whittington.
