Defensive line finally shows some signs of life

If we’re looking for positive news from Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns defense week-over-week following this 35-point win over the Red Raiders, look no further than the play of the defensive line on this day. Texas didn’t get much of any push in the loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks two weekends ago. And the pass rush didn’t look very good even in a solid win over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in the regular season opener.

Texas was able to turn it around, though, in this big win over Texas Tech. Despite the 35 points that the defense gave up, mostly coming in the second half, the defensive front showed a lot of improvement in multiple facets of this game. Senior defensive end Moro Ojomo and sophomore Alfred Collins led the way in a resurgent effort that is great to see from this duo.

Ojomo and Collins each had one sack and at least two tackles for loss in this game. It looks like both the defensive linemen, like Ojomo and Collins, and Kwiatkowski were able to make the necessary adjustments coming into the Big 12 opener.

Texas really won the battle in the trenches, as both DeMarvion Overshown and Luke Brockermeyer bounced back nicely this weekend. Texas Tech was solid on the ground in the first three games but mustered less than 130 rushing yards and fewer than four yards per carry against Texas.

Finally, we got to see the Longhorns win the battle in the trenches. And Texas won the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

There was really nothing but good news for Texas in the trenches in this game, getting a nice push in the pass rush, and allowing 3.9 yards per carry.
