Trae Clayton, SF

Speaking of pull with an under-the-radar three-star recruit in the 2022 class in-state, Texas should be able to ratchet up the connection with three-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy small forward Trae Clayton at some point soon this fall. Clayton received his offer from Texas on June 17, 2020, so they’ve been after him for a good while now.

What is hard to tell, though, is how much Texas has stayed in communication with Clayton since the change in the coaching regime. Smart’s regime was the one that originally offered Clayton. And while Texas was one of the most consistent programs in contact with Clayton throughout 2020, we haven’t heard as much between these two parties in 2021.

Ironically enough, two of the top schools for both Clayton and Murray looks to be Texas and Mississippi State. Texas is trying to go into Mississippi State’s recruiting territory to land a commitment from Murray. And Mississippi State is going into Texas’ recruiting territory to try to get the decision from Clayton.

If Texas were to want to get Clayton in the 2022 class to really build out some good depth on the wing moving forward, it likely would just take a rejuvenated effort from Beard and his staff to get in contact with him. Clayton is a local product hailing out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, so the geographic relevance is there with him.
