Bench is going to be strong no matter what

It’s clear that the Longhorns bench is going to be very strong this season. It doesn’t really matter what Beard does throughout the season to shift the rotation. This bench has so much depth that the Longhorns are going to be fine throughout the season.

A few of the Longhorns players that stood out in this win over Houston Baptist coming off the bench were Mitchell, freshman forward Jaylon Tyson, and senior sharpshooting guard/wing Jase Febres. Tyson and Mitchell were the two biggest contributors off the bench in this game, though.

Mitchell registered a team-high 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals, two blocks, and no turnovers. And he shot 4-of-7 from the field, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Mitchell was great in this game for the Longhorns, and it would make sense if he was a starter against the Zags.

Meanwhile, Tyson had a great debut game for Texas in this win over Houston Baptist. He registered 11 points, three rebounds, no assists, one steal, one block, and no turnovers. And Tyson shot 5-of-5 from the field, didn’t have any attempts from beyond the arc, and hit his sole attempt from the charity stripe.

Febres added six points, one rebound, one assist, one steal, and one block, for the Longhorns in this game too.

We didn’t even get into the presence that players like sophomore guard Devin Askew, junior forward Brock Cunningham, shooting guard Avery Benson, etc., could have for Texas off the bench.
