Too much backcourt depth for Texas to let Northern Colorado hang around

Northern Colorado is actually off to a decent start this season. They beat a decent Hawaii Rainbow Warriors team earlier this season and carry a record of 3-1 into this game. That is why Texas is roughly a 21-point favorite ahead of tip-off for this game instead of being a wider spread.

But the Longhorns are still that big of a favorite for a reason. Despite getting limited in the loss to Gonzaga last weekend by a dozen points, Texas still looks to have one of the best and deepest in the Big 12, if not the entire country. It is just going to take time for this group to gel together.

Northern Colorado has a few guards who are the trio of their highest scorers through four games this season. The one to watch is the 6-foot-4 two-guard Daylen Kountz, who is averaging more than 17 points per game.

Northern Colorado is going to have a tough time getting anything going against such solid Longhorns perimeter defenders such as seniors Courtney Ramey and Marcus Carr. Sophomore guard Devin Askew also had a solid start to the season thus far and is definitely one to watch in this meeting with the Bears.

Ramey and Carr both had down games in the loss to the Zags. The good news here is the fact that Carr and Ramey played better in the second half against the Zags and can carry this momentum into this game. There are going to be much more difficult guards that this duo has to defend throughout the season, and will likely use Northern Colorado as a launch pad to find more success during the non-conference slate.

This is not to mention all that Texas has in terms of solid volume scorers on the offensive end. Ramey and Carr can still explode offensively at any time. With Northern Colorado ranking outside the top 200 defensively, allowing roughly 71 points per game, this a true chance to bounce back for these two on both ends of the floor.
