Another ultra-efficient Longhorns player in the frontcourt unit out of the gates this season is the former Creighton Blue Jays standout junior forward Christian Bishop. As one of the initial big transfer portal additions during the offseason for Beard and the Longhorns, Bishop is proving why the staff had so much faith in him coming onto the Forty Acres.

Yet, while Bishop is off to a really hot start this season for Beard and the Longhorns, his playing time still isn’t where you would expect it to be. The reasons for that are twofold.

The first is the fact that Texas just has a very crowded frontcourt rotation with a ton of starting-caliber players. And the second is that Texas had some room in the second half to get some of the players deeper down the bench playing time in the wins over Houston Baptist and Northern Colorado.

Nonetheless, Bishop is off to a very productive start this season. Through three games, he’s averaged around eight points per game, four rebounds, one assist, no steals, and one block. And Bishop has shot a sparkling 64.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc, and 60 percent from the free-throw line.

The effectiveness of Bishop out of the gates this season is further highlighted by some of his all-encompassing advanced metrics. He’s registered a stellar career-best 33.7 player efficiency rating, 147 offensive rating, 9.9 box plus/minus, .326 win shares per 40 minutes, 14.1 offensive rebounding percentage, and a 66.7 true shooting percentage.
