4 stars Texas should target in the transfer portal early this offseason
Jadon Haselwood, WR
It’s hard to know whether Sark and the Longhorns will go after a Group of Five product in the transfer portal that is very proven like Chambers or go after someone more familiar such as the former Oklahoma Sooners standout redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jadon Haselwood this offseason. Haselwood is also one of multiple Oklahoma wideouts that Texas could go after in the portal this offseason.
The tendency of Sark and his staff to go out and get more familiar players from big-time blue blood programs out of the transfer portal last offseason would give the indication that they might be more comfortable getting someone like Haselwood over Chambers.
I would personally love the idea of the Longhorns going after either the former Oklahoma tight end Austin Stogner or Haselwood first and foremost. But then, you still have the likes of Theo Wease and potentially Marvin Mims going into the transfer portal entering the offseason.
Haselwood could be a nice fit for Texas in terms of the fact that he could fill a starting slot as an outside receiver alongside Whittington and Worthy. He would complete a really talented trio of wideouts that could make an immediate splash for the Longhorns in 2022 and beyond.
The 6-foot-3 and 205-pound Haselwood is someone that can go up and get contested balls about as good as anyone in the Big 12 this season. He caught a double-digit number of contested passes targeted his way so far this season, as he is one of the nation’s leaders in that regard in the last few seasons.
Haselwood would be a nice fit for Sark’s offense, and just give another weapon to boost whoever the next starting quarterback will be for Texas in 2022.
