Texas Basketball: 3 reasons why the Longhorns will dominate Stanford
There is a clear plan of attack for how to beat Stanford
Stanford is the type of team that the Longhorns should be able to prepare for without too much difficulty. While there are certainly some talented players on Stanford, especially in their deep group of forwards, it’s clear who their top weapons are. I already mentioned Stanford’s top forward duo of Ingram and Delaire.
If Texas can shut down Ingram and Delaire in this game, or at least hold them at bay, it’s going to be incredibly challenging for the Cardinal to come away with a win.
So far this season, Stanford is averaging around 72 points per game, 38 rebounds, and 14 assists. The combination of Ingram and Delaire has accounted for 26 of those points per game, 11 rebounds, and five assists. That is a pretty extreme reliance on two players, especially considering the fact that the third-leading scorer on the team behind these two is sophomore guard Michael O’Connell (who is averaging around seven points per game).
Texas namely has to shut down the Dallas, TX, native freshman Ingram if they want to win this game. The 6-foot-8 forward is a former elite five-star recruit that is averaging around 13 points per game, seven rebounds, and four assists, while shooting 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Ingram is a versatile scorer that can do some damage if Texas doesn’t hold him at bay. The good news here is that Texas has some very capable, proven, and experienced on-ball defenders in the frontcourt that are also switchable. That should be enough to keep Ingram at bay in this game and help the Longhorns nab a win in the end.
