Texas Basketball: 3 transfers shining through the first 10 games
Timmy Allen, F
Purely statistically speaking, the former Utah Utes forward transfer Timmy Allen is basically a version of Bishop on steroids. These two obviously fill different roles for the Longhorns for the most part, but each provided a major boost out of the transfer portal to this rotation out of the gates this season.
Allen is a perfect fit with Beard and the Longhorns this season, putting up some numbers that are good for career bests so far. He’s also a great fit in the starting frontcourt unit that really helps to round out this top group.
The difference for Allen this season compared to year’s past is the fact that he’s playing at a slower pace now. That is evident in the fact that he is averaging a career-best 30.1 points per 100 possessions while he’s averaging nearly a career-low 12.9 points per game.
Allen is still an excellent rebounder that especially hits the offensive glass with a ton of energy and effectiveness. He’s one of the leaders among the major conference schools so far this season in offensive rebounding percentage at 13.7.
It is also evident the defensive impact that Allen is making as a disruptor for the Longhorns mostly playing at the four with the fact that he’s registered a career-best 1.5 block percentage and 2.5 steal percentage. Most of all, he is one of the more reliable on-ball forward defenders of any player on this team.
The impact that Allen has made for this team this season is evident in his all-encompassing advanced metrics. He ranks in the top three for the Longhorns so far this season with a 9.0 box plus/minus, .272 win shares per 40 minutes, and 25.8 player efficiency rating.
