Frontcourt unit continues to put disruptive defense on display

While this definitely wasn’t the most impressive outing from the Longhorns’ top frontcourt unit on the offensive end of the floor against West Virginia, they certainly did their job on defense. Texas continued to play some extremely disruptive defense that made it extremely difficult for this shorthanded West Virginia squad to find any consistent flow on offense.

Texas forced a whopping 20 turnovers from West Virginia. That came largely courtesy of the defensive efforts from the likes of senior forwards Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop and junior forward Brock Cunningham. Allen registered a game-high three steals. Bishop and Cunningham also combined for three steals.

It’s hard not to love what Allen is doing on both ends of the floor for the Longhorns at this point, though. He came up with two offensive boards, as Allen is turning into one of the best offensive rebounders in recent memory on the Forty Acres. He continues to lead the Big 12 in offensive rebounding percentage through this point of the season.

While junior center Tre Mitchell didn’t have his strongest outing, the likes of Allen and Cunningham were able to pick up the pace. Texas needs this group just to play some solid on-ball defense, continue to be disruptive in the passing lanes, and hit the glass hard. That is exactly what this group delivered in this impressive win over West Virginia.
