3 key recruits impressed by Texas’ hire of RB coach Tashard Choice
Javin Simpkins, RB
Another key 2023 running back target that the Longhorns staff now has in their crosshairs is the talented and potent four-star Norland (FL) product, Javin Simpkins. A former Georgia Tech commit that has a very close relationship with Choice, Simpkins is someone that could definitely follow the former Yellow Jackets running backs coach to his newest destination.
I’ve already talked about before the relationship that Simpkins has with Choice. That is quite obvious in the fact that he committed to Choice and the Yellow Jackets as a staple of their 2023 class. And then once the writing was on the wall that Choice could be leaving for another job, Simpkins decided to re-open his recruitment.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the Longhorns can get an official visit on the books with Simpkins in the very near future. Texas already had an offer out to Simpkins before Choice replaced Drayton as the running backs coach. That prior connection and interest could also help the Longhorns in the race to land a commitment from Simpkins.
Simpkins is one of two Florida running backs that Choice was doing a fantastic job recruiting for Georgia Tech’s 2023 class. It’s now time to watch if Choice can get either one of these two running back prospects in the Longhorns 2023 class now that he’s going to work for Sark’s staff. This is definitely an exciting time for Texas’ running back recruiting.
