If Texas isn’t able to eventually land a commitment from Neyor out of the transfer portal this offseason, then the focus could turn to the next big-time wide receiver that is available in the portal. In a world where that becomes reality for the Longhorns, then it looks like a name worth watching is the former Oklahoma Sooners freshman wide receiver and elite five-star recruit Mario Williams.

The speedy and elusive 5-foot-9 and 185-pound freshman wideout was someone that got an offer from Texas coming out of Plant City High School in Florida. And while it looked like former Texas head coach Tom Herman and his staff really wanted Williams, there was never really traction that he found with them.

Meanwhile, Sark and second-year Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks found a lot of traction when they were recruiting Williams on staff with the Alabama Crimson Tide. That connection is something that could still play a role in Texas pursuing Williams out of the transfer portal to give the offense a real weapon to work with in the receiving corps.

A smaller speedy wideout like Williams that can really make opposing defenders miss in the open field should be a nice fit with Sark’s offense. But Sark might be prioritizing getting a true outside receiver like Neyor right now to round out his starting group this offseason instead of adding another smaller wideout such as Willimas. That would be the narrative to watch here if Texas wants to offer the Florida native after he had a big freshman campaign in Norman.
