Another important in-state target for the Longhorns 2023 class early in the 2022 calendar year is the touted four-star Chapin shooting guard KJ Lewis. This 6-foot-4 and 185-pound two-guard is one of the most highly-rated guards that has an offer from the Longhorns for the 2023 class.

Since Beard and the Longhorns don’t actually hold a commitment from a true shooting guard in the 2022 class right now, it would make sense that the 2023 cycle would place extra priority on this position group. Texas made it a priority to land the elite five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy shooting guard Keyonte George in the 2022 class.

But those efforts would come back to backfire on the Longhorns as George would pass on Texas to give his commitment to Baylor, where he would sign his letter of intent during the first signing period.

Now, Texas would do well to build a foundation in the 2023 class by potentially landing a commitment from the El Paso, TX, native Lewis. And despite roughly 20 offers coming his way already, it looks like Texas is in a good spot with Lewis at the moment.

Lewis already put the Longhorns in his top 12, and there would be a clear role and ability to make an immediate impact with Texas. That should be very appealing to a mature and potent prospect such as Lewis when it comes to decision time for him.
