3 Texas players that could still be bound to transfer this offseason
Devin Richardson, LB
A good example of an underrated commitment that the Longhorns got out of the transfer portal last offseason that just wasn’t a good scheme fit was the former New Mexico State Aggies redshirt sophomore linebacker and ex-Freshman All-American Devin Richardson. I personally liked the addition of Richardson out of the portal when the news first dropped.
Richardson was stellar for New Mexico state a couple of seasons ago when he was named a Freshman All-American. During the 2019 season, Richardson registered nearly 70 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles, and one pass breakup.
If there were any player on this roster that could be a threat to put his name in the transfer portal for the second time in his career, it looks like it could be Richardson. He could still be a very productive player in the spotlight elsewhere.
Maybe there is still a chance that the Longhorns could find a role for Richardson in the next season or two. He did get north of 70 snaps between defense and special teams last season. That’s not the worst given the outlook depth-wise at the linebacker position in 2022. Richardson could still be a key part of this roster.
Most of the reason why he made it on this list is the fact that he just didn’t look like the right scheme fit last fall.
