Predicting Texas’ next transfer addition after WR Isaiah Neyor
Latavious Brini, DB
One of the newer transfer portal targets on the radar of the Longhorns staff is the former Georgia Bulldogs starting senior defensive back Latavious Brini. It looks like Texas is set to host Brini for a visit heading into the weekend. This is notable since it originally looked like the Longhorns were not going to have enough scholarships to pursue another defensive back transfer like Brini.
Texas did already land a commitment out of the transfer portal this offseason from a defensive back in the former Ohio State Buckeyes redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts. Adding another defensive back still might not make the most sense, though, given the other positional needs the Longhorns have on the roster this offseason.
It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff uses the remaining scholarships at this point.
But it’s not like Brini wouldn’t bring a ton of value to the table for the Texas secondary. He would be an immediate impact player that could help add some pop to this defensive backfield. That is evident from the production he put up during his four years playing for Georgia.
Brini registered 50 combined tackles, a half-dozen tackles for loss, no sacks, more than a dozen run stuffs, one interception, and nine pass breakups. That included a career-best eight pass breakups in the season that was prior to Brini losing his starting job in the secondary.
There is some obvious interest here that the Longhorns have in Brini. But they will have to make their move fast with other competing schools wanting Brini, such as the Arkansas Razorbacks.
