Brennan Eagles, WR

Potentially the most recognizable name among former Longhorns that was picked up in the 2022 USFL Draft was wide receiver Brennan Eagles. As the first former Longhorns player of two that was picked by the Philadelphia Stars, Eagles heard his name called eighth overall in the 15th round of the festivities.

After getting signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft, Eagles didn’t really get to see any game action last year. He was waived by the Cowboys before really getting a shot to make an impact in game action last year.

Yet, the 6-foot-4 and 230-pound wide receiver Eagles can still be a big-time threat for the Stars on the outside. He showed a lot of flashes during his three seasons playing for Texas where he registered more than 1,000 receiving yards on 16.8 yards per catch with 11 receiving touchdowns.

Chris Nelson, DT

As one of the most underrated defensive/nose tackles in recent memory for the Longhorns, defensive tackle Chris Nelson is certainly a name to watch in the USFL now. Nelson was the second of two former Longhorns players picked up by Philly in the 2022 USFL Draft. He got his name called in the 25th round of the draft, sixth overall.

Nelson wound up being one of the top dozen or so defensive tackles picked up in the draft. This will be yet another shot for Nelson to try and prove his worth to NFL scouts after stints with The Spring League and the CFL in the last couple of years. The team that gave Nelson the best shot to make an NFL roster after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft was the Tennessee Titans. But he never actually got to take a snap in the NFL with the Titans before getting waived.
