Another very important senior for Beard and the Longhorns that will need to step up in the regular season finale against Kansas on March 5 and in the postseason is forward Timmy Allen. As one of the most important Longhorns players throughout Big 12 play, it goes without saying that Allen needs to be at his best come postseason time.

The problem facing Allen is some of the inconsistencies game-over-game. A good example of this is the fact that Allen is often struggling in games that come after some massive performances he’s had throughout the Big 12 slate.

This is actually a problematic trend for Allen going back to the loss to the Seton Hall Pirates prior to the turn of the calendar year. Allen has a half-dozen games since that point where he’s scored more than 15 points. And in the six games that followed his outings with more than 15 points, Allen is averaging around seven points per game and five rebounds while shooting around 35 percent from the field.

Texas will need more consistency out of Allen game-over-game come postseason time if they really want to make a deep run in the Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament. At the moment, it appears that opponents are able to prepare for Allen without too much trouble after he has a breakthrough game.

Allen is clearly one of the vocal leaders for the Longhorns this season. He’s embodying the toughness that Beard is trying to instill in this team. But Texas will also need more consistency in his game if they want to meet their goals in the postseason.
