One of the newest big-time transfer portal targets on the board at this point of the offseason for the Longhorns is the former standout West Virginia Mountaineers All-Big 12 senior linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo. Texas looked to get in contact with Chandler-Semedo right after he originally put his name in the transfer portal last week.

But some of the momentum the Longhorns had in terms of traction with Chandler-Semedo after he put his name in the portal last week seems to have slowed down in the last few days. There’s not much coming out from the Texas side or from Chandler-Semedo’s camp.

Texas still should be considered a player in the race to land a commitment from Chandler-Semedo out of the portal, though, entering the spring. The next step here with Chandler-Semedo needs to be getting him to Austin if the Longhorns are serious about getting a commitment out of him.

There are going to be other top schools going after Chandler-Semedo in the transfer portal. Texas needs to make some quick moves to stay on top of this recruitment.

It will be interesting to see where Texas goes with this one as co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate try to fill a big need at this position. Chandler-Semedo is an impact linebacker that has already proven himself in the Big 12.

All in all, the fact that the Longhorns got in contact with Chandler-Semedo as soon as they did after he entered the portal last week means this staff is likely to prioritize him heading into the spring.
