Darius Hodges, LB/EDGE

I usually try to include some newer entrants to the transfer portal each passing month among those that the Longhorns could go after to help fill various positions of need. And since the biggest need at this point of the offseason looks to be along the defensive front (namely at linebacker/edge rusher), that’s where we conclude this list.

A name to watch that could certainly receive a Texas offer before too long is the former Tulane Green Wave redshirt freshman breakthrough linebacker/edge rusher Darius Hodges. A rising linebacker such as Hodges seems like a good fit for the Longhorns as he could play at a few different spots along the defensive front.

Hodges first announced his intentions to put his name in the transfer portal by way of a post on his Twitter timeline on the afternoon of March 2.

Considering how productive Hodges was during the 2021 campaign for the Tulane defense, it’s very surprising to see the lack of offers come out in the public eye for him. Hodges is definitely one of the best linebackers in the transfer portal at this moment.

The reigning All-Conference-USA linebacker is definitely versatile enough to either play as an outside linebacker or edge rusher for Texas. The 6-foot-1 and 265-pound Hodges got snaps at both spots during his two seasons playing for Tulane.

Last season, Hodges was one of the highest-graded linebackers in C-USA. He led Tulane in tackles for loss too. Hodges registered 40 combined tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass breakup, 28 quarterback pressures, and 28 stops during the 2021 season.

That type of production would be welcome right away on the Forty Acres.
