Sam Ehlinger and 4 best Colts’ QB options after Wentz trade
Derek Carr
I would imagine that the preferred route for most Colts fans for this team to find their next starting quarterback following the Wentz trade with the Commanders is to find a trade target worthy of leading this offense. And one potential option that fits the bill in this regard is the former Fresno State Bulldogs star and Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
Carr is a quarterback that put up some solid numbers for the Raiders in the last few seasons. And he did that with a supporting cast on offense that was arguably much worse than he would have with the Colts in 2022 and beyond in his last few years with the Raiders.
In the last three seasons, Carr has actually registered a record over .500 as the Raiders’ starting quarterback. Hence, he could put the Colts in a position to be the AFC South favorite right away if Indy’s front office could find a way to pull off this trade with the Raiders.
The main question surrounding the idea of the Colts nabbing Carr from the Raiders to be their next starting quarterback is how much Vegas is asking for him in a trade. The three-time Pro Bowler is likely to still command a pretty lofty price tag on the trade block this offseason.
In all likelihood, the Colts would have to part ways with significant future draft capital to get Carr from the Raiders. But a good portion of the Colts fan base might think that it’s worth it to mortgage some of this franchise’s future to get a quarterback that could help them find some postseason success right away.
