Sam Ehlinger and 4 best Colts’ QB options after Wentz trade
Deshaun Watson
At the moment, you would have to figure that the favorite option among Colts fans to be their next starting quarterback is the former Clemson Tigers Heisman finalist and Houston Texans standout Deshaun Watson. Knowing that Watson won’t be facing any criminal charges for his recent case, there will likely be a ton of suitors lining up to get in trade discussions with the Texans to nab him this offseason.
And following the Colts parting ways with Wentz in that big splash trade with the Commanders earlier in the week, this now seems like a very realistic landing spot for Watson. It’s now just a matter of how much the Colts are willing to give up to land an immediate difference-maker for this team as the former Clemson star.
Landing Watson would obviously put the Colts in a position to immediately be one of the top postseason contenders out of the AFC in 2022. An offense led by the likes of a dominant offensive line, Taylor, and Watson would be really potent.
Just take a look at the numbers Watson put up during the 2020 campaign with the Texans and you can see why Colts fans would be so excited about the impact he could have on the field for them. During the 2020 season, Watson led the league with more than 4,800 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns, just seven picks, along with more than 400 rushing yards, and three rushing scores.
The idea of the Colts trading for Watson could bring about some level of controversy. But he is also the biggest difference-maker among any quarterback that the Colts could realistically look to trade for at this point of the offseason.
