Texas Basketball: 3 likely Tournament opponents on Selection Sunday
Miami
While it’s really difficult to find a team that is projected as the 11 or 12-seed for the Round of 64 in the NCAA Tournament that wouldn’t be a challenge for an inconsistent Texas team riding a three-game losing streak, there are some that would be more preferable compared to others. One team that Texas could likely match up well against is the Miami Hurricanes out of the ACC.
Miami does head into Selection Sunday with some confidence and momentum after they nearly upset the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils and legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski in the ACC Tournament this weekend. The Hurricanes have also won three of their last four games heading into Selection Sunday on March 13.
Moreover, Miami was projected as an 11-seed in the latest update to ESPN’s Bracketology from Lunardi on the morning of March 13. That placed Miami in the Midwest (Chicago) Region, pitting them up against the six-seed Texas in the Round of 64.
Miami could be a fun team to see the Longhorns match up against in the Round of 64. They are one of the faster-paced teams coming out of the ACC this season, averaging nearly 75 points scored per game (good for top 75 in Division I).
The high-octane brand of basketball that the Hurricanes play could make for a really interesting matchup with Beard and the Longhorns, who are one of the more stout defensive teams among the major conference schools. Texas also brings more experience to the table than Miami.
If it were up to me, I really wouldn’t mind Texas getting the draw of Miami for the Round of 64 on Selection Sunday.
