Another one of the more recent big men on the Longhorns’ radar among transfer portal targets is the former standout Louisiana Tech Bulldogs two-time All-Conference-USA sophomore power forward Kenneth Lofton Jr. Lofton is one of the most proven and experienced big men in the transfer portal at the moment, which is why Texas had an immediate interest in getting in communication with him earlier this month.

Texas is one of multiple schools that appear to be targeting Lofton out of the portal early this offseason. Some other schools of note in the race to land a commitment from him out of the portal are the Kentucky Wildcats, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, USC Trojans, Kansas State Wildcats, Gonzaga, and Ole Miss Rebels.

Texas does appear to be making Lofton a priority early this offseason. That should at least put Texas in a position to make it through the next round of finalist cuts if that comes down anytime soon from Lofton.

But the same could easily be said at this point for the likes of Kentucky, Houston, Gonzaga, Texas A&M, etc.

The 6-foot-8 and 275-pound Lofton would definitely give the Longhorns a big body that could bang around down low and make an impact on both ends of the floor. Lofton is an excellent rebounder, a gritty and effective defender down low, and a versatile inside scorer that could add some punch to Texas’ offense.

Lofton would definitely be one of the more polished players the Longhorns could get to make an immediate impact on the frontcourt unit ahead of next season.
